vii or omissions . Also there are many groups, teams and bands that have made important contributions, such as Lovey’s Trinidad String Band of 1912, TAPSO of 1951, our Netball Team of 1979, the Soca Warriors of 2006 and many others. But this is a book about individuals so perhaps that will be the topic of a future book. Otherbooksand featureshavebeenwrittenbywell knownauthorsabout important people who have contributed and are still contributing to the development of Trinidad and Tobago. In researching and compiling this book, which was done especially with schools and libraries in mind, some of these books and other sources have been used. For more in-depth detail you can refer to these sources which are listed on pages xii and 196. Sincere thanks to all the writers, researchers and organisations whose works I have listed as the reference sources and who have willingly given their approval for the use of their works. Many thanks to First Citizens for their kind sponsorship and the Ministry of Education for their wholehearted support. I hope that you will find it useful, educational and interesting. It has been my honour and joy putting it together for you. History, if not recorded, will be lost in time. Nasser Khan P.S. This book was inspired by a chance conversation I had with calypsonian David Rudder prior to our 50th Independence Anniversary in 2012. During that conversation we both lamented about the lack of a comprehensive book available to our educational institutions especially one that features our Heroes, Pioneer and Role Models. This book is the result of that conversation.
